October 2016

October 2016 was a big month for getting my tax affairs in order and developing business administration systems to get my sh*t together for next year. It was more fun than it sounds.

beauty: body
Weight ≤ 59 kg by 6 February 2017

🙂

64.1 kg

😐

64.2 kg

My Transplant Clinic review was a little disconcerting. Nothing major, just a little niggly result that needs to be monitored. Might be something, might be nothing. The only thing I can do about it is to get really well and lose that weight that’s been dogging me.
beauty: presence
build a practical and workable wardrobe that reflects who I am

🙂

🙂Got my haircut, but I’m between styles and wish it was longer and neater. It’s gone a weird colour, probably because I am trying to restore it to white.

Ordered my 2016 Summer Wardrobe. Can’t wait til it gets here.

I suggested an outfit for working from home, and offered advice about perfume; what it is, choosing and trying it.

beauty: home
sparse yet comfortable happy home that reflects our authentic selves

🙂

😐There’s been some cleaning and tidying, and some half-hearted furniture shopping. It’s hard work so we tend to veer away from the shops and towards the restaurant end of the mall. We’ve had some nice lunches.
beauty: garden
lush and abundant garden providing habitats, weather protection and a mystical threshold

🙂

🙂Finally visited the indigenous garden centre and bought some local wattles and grevilleas. I can’t wait to see how they grow.

The roses have burst into flower, so they’re all gorgeous. And we have enough broccoli to keep us going for weeks (saving $1 a week!). We had loquats one day, and they were gone the next but it looks like we’ll have a good crop of apples and strawberries. Fingers crossed we get some of those before they are all gone!

friendship: creatures

  • get the dogs well and healthy
  • develop habitats to support native species

🙂

🙂With all the flowers in bloom, the garden is alive with nectar eating birds. We’ve got some nesting going on nearby as well, so it’s quite exciting.

The dogs are due for their arthritis injections, and I’m looking forward to seeing them a little more comfortable.

friendship: friends

  • maintain and improve relationships with international and e- friends
  • make new friends (especially local)

🙂

😐I’ve not been as social as I would have liked this month, though I did have lunch Katy, and again with another Katy.

The anniversary of my Aunt’s death passed relatively easily, perhaps because I made space to grieve again.

I’ve discovered some local special interest groups to get involved with. I’ll wait until after Christmas as I expect a lot of places will start shutting down now that it is November.

friendship: contribution
give something back to the community and the planet

🙂

🙂Another micro-loan, and a tiny repayment from the previous. So wonderful to be a small part of something larger.

I offered a plan for your Christmas preparations – 7 weeks to go!!! (No sign of mint Turkish Delight yet),

pleasure: adventure
taking risks, international vacations and just doing stuff

😐

🙂When I was a child I saw part of the movie Westworld, and it gave me nightmares for months. I had the opportunity to see it again, and while Yul Brynner is/was still disturbing, I found the movie interesting for several other reasons. For example, that it was set in 1983, and we still haven’t reached that level of technology though some of the latest models from Japan are more realistic. And that it was written by Michael Crichton who also wrote Jurassic Park, Sphere, The Andromeda Strain, and Twister.

My haiku dealt with bliss, I developed a Sleepy Hollow Dinner Party. and took an adventure in adventure.

pleasure: recharge
rest, relax, recharge

  • turn off the computer by 9 pm
  • read two books per month

😐

🙂I’ve been quite good at shutting down my computer this month, and I’m happy to say that I have been able to get some leisure reading in.
wisdom: choice
having the capacity to make choices

🙂

😐This month I was invited to apply for a permanent position, and declining the opportunity was a very difficult choice for a number of reasons.
wisdom: growth

  • become a more complex person by challenging my beliefs
  • developing my mind and having the courage of my convictions
  • choosing me for me

🙂

😐I’m not sure how to describe my progress this month. It’s been one of those in which you barely have time to think.

Or if you do, something comes up and you forget what you were thinking and can’t go back to it.

But there were some stray trains of thought related to the past, including a Facebook challenge to post your high school prom picture.

wealth: income
$12,000 income

🙂

🙂Got paid for editing, and some people bought my books. I really should do the sums.
wealth: expenditure
reduce expenditure

🙂

🙂Nothing big. I’ve got some quotes on cheaper utilities, though the whole process has been time-consuming and quite bothersome. I am not looking forward to phone plans or health insurance.

My October 2016 productivity journal entries are littered with smug congratulatory stickers.

I am ecstatic about the way editing Holistic Personal Finance is going. I’ve actually written it three times over this year, but I feel like it’s right now. There are bits here and there that need tightening, and a few gaps that need to be filled, but overall it’s shaping up well. I’ve even invented some sample families to work through the process with.
