That’s January 2019 been and gone. I feel like we’re off to a good start, but I’m exhausted thinking about all the stuff I hope to get done should I survive the Summer.

January 2019, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, was the warmest on record here in Victoria, as well as Australia as a whole. And with a Federal election coming up this year, it will be interesting to see what the major parties have to say on Climate Change.

VirtueDecJanNotes
Daily Energy
• Not eat processed/manufactured food where possible.
• Walk 10,000 steps.
• Sleep 8 hours.

😐
70.6 kg

🙂 69.5 kg
It became apparent very early that not eating processed food is very difficult when you like cheese. The main purpose is to reduce salt and sugar so I’m leaving this as is until I think of a better way to express it.

Not yet walking 10,000 steps regularly, but I am walking more. And managing mostly to get eight hours sleep, Pretty Girl permitting (I prefer to lose sleep than clean up dog mess).

According to Lymphoedema Lady, I’ve lost about 4 cm (1.6″) from my legs since I started treatment at the end of November. And in general, I feel much more comfortable so that’s a win for me!
Daily Focus
• Write 1,800 saleable words.
• Turn off the computer by 7 pm.
😐🙂Have not yet managed to get 1,800 words a day, mainly because I haven’t set up a routine, and I’m choosing to do other things first, which means I keep running out of time. Of course, I know how to fix this, I just haven’t yet.

I finished four short stories.
Weekly Friendship
• Connect with someone (other than DB) by phone, mail or in person.
🙂🙂Managed to spend time with friends in person, and have a couple of email conversations on the go.

As an aside, I spent some time thinking about things.
Daily Prosperity

• Find three things bout
 being alive to appreciate.
• Find three things about being a (prolific) writer to appreciate.
🙂🙂I’m trying to do my appreciation before I do any work. It’s easier to come up with stuff when my head isn’t full of other things, plus it also helps me decide what to focus on each day.

I’m also feeling quite propserous because we made some long delayed purchases in the sales, including new couches that will fit our tiny loungeroom, replacement doors and mattresses. Nothing like crossing purchases off your to-do list to make you feel wealthy!
Daily Wisdom
• Read 20% of a book each day.
😐🙂So, it turns out that 20% is a bit of a drama to calculate, and can actually slow you down. I’m changing my target to 50 pages a day which is around 20% of the book’s I’ve read so far this year (10!). Though if it’s a good book, there’s no need to hold myself back!

My productivity journal for January 2019 includes notes from books and courses plus a number of happy stickers. In some ways, it was quite a gentle introduction to what could be a very busy year.

How was your January? Are you off to a good start for the year?
