During the recent storms, a tree fell on our house [1].

Fortunately, the tree died a long time ago, so it was brittle and broke up when it hit. But as the rain washed the dry earth from its roots, it fell without warning and with such force, the ground shook.

And it made so much noise it was almost deafening.

And less than 30 seconds later, it was almost as if nothing had happened. All was quiet, and the birds were singing. But there are bits of that tree and those it hit as it fell strewn all over the garden.

[1] Ironically, I included a risk management plan for a tree falling on your house in Holistic Personal Finance.
