September 2022 was notable for a deluge of stationery shop emails inviting me to pre-order my 2023 diary. Which was also handy for remembering to start my Christmas shopping list!
In case you wondered, I’m very happy with my Jibun Techo Biz and am impatiently waiting its arrival. One stationery email mentions the diary perfectly fits a Yubokumin Notebook Cover. And I just happen to have one of those from my failed attempt at using the Travelers Notebook system. And it does indeed fit perfectly – very happy about that too!
Highlights
I’m starting to rebuild my fitness from July/August, plus I’ve started a supervised eating plan and lost a little weight. And I’m finally seeing a physiotherapist for a long-standing back issue relating to my time on peritoneal dialysis. With a bit of old lady fall prevention work too.
Also finished novella 5 (of the 12 novellas in 12 months challenge), and plan to publish some of them soon. Also took an intensive Science Fiction workshop, so hopefully my future SF writing will better stand up to scrutiny.
After August’s ikebana demonstration, I did a lot of Japanese style reading. I’m still 6 books ahead of my reading challenge schedule, but recreational reading is up there with other habits that fell by the wayside in July/August.
โข This Is My Funniest 2 โข Ganbatte! โข Ikigai & Other Japanese Words to Live By โข Japanese Flower Arranging โข Ikebana Unbound โข Shadow in the Empire of Light โข
Took Clever Girl in to be spayed, and she’s come out fine. I am amazed how tolerant she was of having a bucket on her head.
Goal Scoring
The score is a percentage; the times I did the keystone activity (most likely to produce the result) divided by the times I planned to. A “good” score is above 85%. I check in every week, but I’ll only note the averages here.
As I mentioned last month, I didn’t really get off the ground. I’m sure I’ll do better next month in the new quarter.
Goals | SCORE | NOTES |
#1: Stay Married to DB โข Cook his favourite meals. โข Do the chores that annoy him the most when they don’t get done. โข Never move anything he puts down. | – | We’re experimenting with the new diet, and it’s not always working. Haven’t done enough chores, so a lot of not moving stuff. |
#2: lose 5.6 kg by July 3, 2022 โข Eat smaller portions. โข Don’t eat snacks. โข No eating after 7 pm. | – | Ummm… Probably need to change this in view of the new eating plan. |
#3: Stephen King Famous โข Write 500 โ 1,000 words every day. โข Complete a novella each month. โข Publish the novella the next month. | – | Wrote three short stories and a novella, but didn’t write consistently. |
It’s funny how some habits are easier to pick back up than others.
Dean Wesley Smith talked about the Ground Effect. Essentially, “ground effect with airplanes is a feeling that the plane pushes away from the ground as it gets closer, can just float over the ground once it is in the air.”
Now he was talking about how writing feels easier when you do it every day, but I’ve found the same applies for pretty much everything, specifically things like getting up early.
And that’s me for September 2022! How did your September go?
