October 2017

That’s October 2017 done and dusted. There’s loads of Christmas stuff in the stores, so it’s starting to feel as though the rest of the year only matters in so far as it gives you time to get ready for the holiday season.

Virtue Sep Oct Notes
Beauty: Body

I enjoy exercising my lean, healthy 59 kg body several times a week.

πŸ™
67.1 kg
πŸ™
67.2 kg
The news was all good from latest hospital check-up. Aside from my weight of course. I weigh more now than when I was on dialysis and 6 kg of that was excess fluid whereas now it’s probably fat. It really is past time to take myself in hand and do something about it. Am booked in for a colonoscopy. Can’t wait (not).

Finally managed to get into a local yoga class!!! Am appalled by how little strength, stamina and flexibility I have.

Beauty: Presence

I have thick glossy hair that compliments my beautiful clothes.

πŸ™‚  πŸ™‚ Pretty sure that the hair loss treatments did not make my hair grow back, so I didn’t buy any products to use at home. I did enjoy popping down to the salon for a weekly pampering so I might try it again in the new year. I am happy with my cut.

In response to a tv report on Melbourne Cup fashions, I wrote an outfit for a race meeting.

Beauty: Home

I live in a comfortable home that soothes my soul.

πŸ™‚ πŸ™ Lost the plot on the housework again in October. There’s so much to do I’m not sure where to start. Maybe by treating myself to a Spring clean. Though the effort of finding a service and deciding what to get done feels exhausting and I haven’t looked into it yet. Anyway, the warmer weather has brought replacing the air-conditioning up the list of priorities.
Beauty: Garden

My garden is lush and abundant, providing habitats, weather protection and a mystical threshold.

πŸ™‚  πŸ™‚ We cut down the old pine trees and now the garden is flooded with light. The roses have burst into bloom, and my white peony rose has gone nuts – it has so many flowers it can’t hold the weight of them. We lost some of our tiny replacement shrubs to the possums, but I suppose you have to expect that when you plant under the trees they live in.

The cherry tree has more fruit than ever before, and there are strawberries and raspberries galore. No Brussel sprouts again this year so I probably won’t bother with them again. Last of the broccoli to harvest to make space for some summer crops.

Friendship: Friends

I love meeting new people, and as I am friendly and outgoing, I make friends easily.

πŸ™‚  πŸ™‚ Caught up with several friends this month, and now I’m thinking I must try and book some Christmas catch ups before it’s too late.

Maybe I’ll host my own Gangster Dinner Party.

Friendship: Creatures

My creatures are happy and healthy and find my garden a haven.

πŸ™‚  πŸ™ Poor pretty boy has been expensively ill. We have discovered he has kidney failure and pancreatitis – no wonder he has lost so much weight. He needs a special diet but there’s not much point ordering it if he’s going to throw it up, so at the moment we’re just trying to stabilise him. Pretty miserable birthday for him this year. Pretty girl doesn’t know it but she’s got some drama coming up.
Friendship: Contribution

I share my knowledge, time, and money with those who need it.

πŸ™‚  πŸ˜ Contribution this month has been mainly telling people things they can’t be bothered Googling. I have been less gracious than I could have been.
Pleasure: Adventure

I am brave and adventurous not afraid to try new things.

πŸ˜  πŸ˜ Too busy finishing Holistic Personal Finance to go adventuring. And anyway, I went to Japan in August and that was an ENORMOUS adventure.
Pleasure: Recharge

I work hard and have the right to rest and recharge.

πŸ™‚  πŸ˜ I feel I have been watching too much tv. I hope I can balance that out in November. Though I did celebrate the arrival of Spring.
Wisdom: Growth

I learn and grow every day.

πŸ™‚  πŸ˜ Aside from out, I’m not sure if I grew.
Wealth: Business Development

Select and attend a business-related conference or event – real not virtual.

πŸ™‚  πŸ™‚ I went to a seminar on “Writing Place”, which wasn’t what I expected, but was very helpful. I haven’t written fiction (aside from policy papers and project reports) for decades and this has given me the confidence that it is something I can still do.

And I did start rebuilding the website from scratch because some of the fixes seemed to be causing new issues. You probably know by now that the old problems were replaced by a new set of problems. But I think the new site looks more writerish. And I had lots of fun making the new quill icon.

Watched a productivity webinar, but don’t feel it was the most productive use of my time (though the slides were very pretty). The book Productivity for Creative People was much more useful. There are some recordings of Running an Author Business that I need to make time to catch up on.

Wealth: Income

I am a successful author making at least $1,000 per month.

πŸ™‚  πŸ™‚ October 2017 had two sales and no revenue (90-day payment terms). My average sales remain 4 books/month but my monthly authorial income drops to $19.87.

My mother’s final bequest arrived in my bank account, and I’ve been considering what to buy as a final gift from her. As a dementia patient, it would probably have been a squashed banana or chocolate bar, and she had dementia for such a long time that I am not sure what the young vital version of her might have chosen.

Wealth: Expenditure

Stick to the Spending Plan

 –  πŸ™‚ I did freak myself out last month about how much I had overspent, so I’m putting this back in the report to remind myself to monitor it more closely.

And as I was thinking about it, I wrote Spending Plans for Overseas Vacations, Weight Loss, and Pet Ownership. And if you think these don’t meet your mark, let me know what I can do to improve them.

My journal reveals during October 2017 I either worked furiously or cared for sick dogs (and cleaned up dog vomit). I have several stickers to show that on some days at least, I was happy with what I got done. Though there was rather more website work than I would have liked and rather less book work.

How was your October? Hopefully less vomit for you!
