January 2017 Progress Report

January 2017

Is it just me, or did January 2017 disappear without a trace before it had even really begun? I was a little preoccupied with planning and website maintenance but it does seem rather unfair to have lived a month with so little to show for it.

KeyWord CLARITY
Virtue December January Notes
Beauty: body

  • Weigh โ‰ค59kg by May 2017 (Discipline).
  • Book all the appropriate 2017 dental, medical and mental appointments so they take place on schedule.
  • Join a local yoga class and pay for the term up front (Discipline).
๐Ÿ™‚
62.2 kg
๐Ÿ˜
64.1 kg
Well, looks like I have lost the plot body wise this month. Time to get back with the diet and exercise programme. And bring my tracking page up to date.

I haven’t yet booked all my appointments, but I have worked out who I need to see and when, so all I have to do now is make the calls.

I have got the skin cancer all clear from the dermatologist, and the ophthalmologist tells me I can probably go another year before I need to get my cataracts removed.

Found a local yoga class, but missed the first session. Next step to book in.

Beauty: presence

  • Pick a hair style and commit to growing it in (Discipline).
  • Book hair appointments for 2017 (schedule).
  • Plan 2017 Winter and Summer wardrobes.
๐Ÿ™‚  ๐Ÿ™‚ I have sort of found a style that I kind of like, but I want an edgier version (which I am fairly sure makes no sense). Still looking.

Booked my hair appointments as far as June because that’s as far as their appointment book goes.

Started thinking about what clothes I might need, and the headology of my working from home outfits. Or maybe a fresh start outfit.

Beauty: home

  • Develop a plan for decorating and upgrading through 2017.
  • Execute the plan.
  • Complete all tasks required by the plan (Discipline).
๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜ We haven’t really progressed this at all.

We know we have an enormous list of things to do, but we don’t know whether to just go room by room and complete all the little jobs or to do something bigger that addresses our little irritations (like lack of storage). Which would probably mean we have to move out for a while.

But if we have to move out, might it be better to sell up and move somewhere that’s already renovated? A lot of houses in the street have recently been sold and renovated which is changing the neighbourhood’s character. It’s a tough decision.

Beauty: garden

  • Develop a 2017 native plant landscaping plan for privacy.
  • Execute the plan.
  • Complete all tasks required by the plan (Discipline).
๐Ÿ™‚  ๐Ÿ™‚ Our lemon tree died and the garden looks a whole lot bigger now that I have removed it. Which has given me some ideas about borders and beds, and I’m doing some research.

We have some green tomatoes, only got to eat one apple between us, and keep missing out on the berries.

Friendship: friends

  • Book 2017 lunches, coffees and dinners with local friends.
  • Join Writers Victoria and attend meetings at least monthly (Discipline).
  • Join a local chapter of Toastmasters and attend at least monthly (Discipline).
๐Ÿ™‚  ๐Ÿ™‚ I have some lunches booked in.

I tried to join Writers Victoria but their website was down (wonder if they have the same issue as me?). Must try again.

Discovered where and when my local Toastmasters meet, and the first meeting for 2017 is in a couple of weeks.

Thought about a dog lovers dinner party.

Friendship: creatures

  • Book 2017 vet appointments for the dogs.
  • Develop habitats for native creatures (shared with Garden).
๐Ÿ™‚  ๐Ÿ™‚ The dog’s vet appointments are booked as far as July because I can’t book them any further ahead.

I saw the fox sitting on my neighbour’s lawn watching Pretty Girl bark at it. A very strange thing to see.

I’d been a little worried about the possums (etc.) with the fox around, but we seem to still have our full complement of creatures though not as many bird chicks as last year.

Friendship: contribution

  • Develop a sharing program.
  • Where possible purchase from small or local suppliers.
๐Ÿ˜  ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve chosen a charity to support this year, and I’ll make my first payment when I’ve calculated my January income.

In the meantime, I suggested that your goals don’t have to be SMART.

Pleasure: adventure

  • Plan and do one new thing each month.
  • Plan an overseas vacation for 2018.
๐Ÿ™‚  ๐Ÿ˜ We’ve been talking about visiting Japan (in memory of my Aunt), though I would quite like to visit New Zealand again.

I contacted someone in one of my Facebook groups (who I haven’t met in person) and made plans to meet.

Pleasure: recharge

  • Turn the computer off by 9 pm.
  • Read a book each week (Discipline).
๐Ÿ™‚  ๐Ÿ™‚ My ongoing website issues mean that I haven’t always turned off by 9, but it irritates when I don’t.

I’m on track with my book reading so far. I’m really enjoying getting back into reading.

Wisdom: growth

  • Read a book each week (shared with Recharge).
  • Visit a historically or culturally significant venue or event each month.
 ๐Ÿ˜  ๐Ÿ˜ Haven’t even given it a thought.
Wealth: Business Development

  • Select and attend a business-related conference or event โ€“ real not virtual.
  • Select and attend a marketing course (real or virtual).
  • Consider buying advertising to market my products and services.
๐Ÿ˜ Haven’t thought about this either.

I met Katy for lunch, and she took some pictures of me at the State Library Victoria to commemorate the fulfilment of my legal obligation to deposit a copy of my books for the future of the nation. And all the while I was thinking of W. H. Dudley Le Souef, and becoming a national figure whom few will know of. (Though less significant than Dudley).

Wealth: income

  • Earn $1,000 a month.
  • Re-develop CV and re-register with employment agencies.
๐Ÿ™‚  ๐Ÿ˜ Haven’t collated my December income yet, but I remembered why I limited my sources for reporting (different currencies, exchange rate fluctuations, payment minimums and delays). But I did some freelance work, and there will be a little money coming in.

EDIT 6 March 2017: December royalties were 9.5% of target, and 2016 overall was 9.91% of target.

It’s partly what started me thinking about pride and vulnerability.

I started work on my CV before realising I have no idea how to describe myself for job search purposes now.

According to my productivity journal, January 2017 was all about planning. And swearing at my computer. Not much else.
