Unbearable Silence

Sometimes, when you are waiting for something, the wait feels unendurable. A never-ending unbearable silence. Especially when you think that something is really important.

The return phone call that never comes. The tradesman that doesn’t turn up. The letter (or cheque) lost in the mail. Your dinner order…

And time seems to slow down – it’s motion barely perceptible; each second taking an hour. As if you are caught in the gravitational field of a black hole. Perpetually hungry in the unbearable silence, waiting.
