Someone, somewhere, more or less, said when life get tough, think of stuff you’re grateful for.

I know I’ve written about the little things, for those who worked through Covid, and for being alive.

I wanted to write something else, but when I searched the site, the internet couldn’t deal with it, though it did come up with something else.

Buying Gratitude

There’s a certain on-line store that must pay a crap-tonne of money to a certain search engine to buy the top lising of pretty much everything I’ve searched for recently.

So when I was searching for gratitude synonmyms, this listing came up…

Browse thousands of brands and find deals on gratitude at (our store), Shop Now. Enjoy gratitude of (our store’s) best price, superior quality & full range of services.

Well, I didn’t really have a choice. I had to know what kind of gratitude they were selling.

I wondered if it was idulgences or opportunities to be grateful.

And of course they weren’t selling gratitude at all.

They were selling countless (cheap) trinkets for expressing your thanks. Cards, t-shirts, prints and mugs.

And once you got the pesky gratefulness out of the way, you could buy some new socks (or whatever) to make your life even better.

Expressing your Gratefulness

I’m old now. (Sometimes I feel older).

I’m not likely to appreciate any of the items you might buy from that store to express your gratitute. In fact, most of them would end up in the bin.

Instead, I’m more likely to appreciate your verbal thanks.

An email or a handwritten letter. Actually, these days a hand written letter would probably make more people feel appreciated. Your writing wouldn’t even need to be legible – just the fact that you took the time ti write it.

Maybe a book, sweet treat or nice piece of cheese.

Though of course different people have different likes, and therefore appreciate different gifts.

Being Grateful

Expressing gratitude is great!

Noticing someone else’s good deed, and being grateful for it is probably better.

Every day I think about what I’m grateful for.

Like the internet coming back up. And when I finish reloading all the images…

I am always grateful for the people who buy my books.

And that I’m still breathing.

I’m often grateful for the weather, and the roof over my head.

And annoying as household renovations can be, that I am in a position where renovations are possible. As well as the ingenuity of some of the previous owners (like the ones who repurposed a door as part of the floor).

What are you grateful for?
